SITE NEWS
An issue with leaving comments
Normally, when a reader comments on a story, WordPress sends the archive team an email notification that (i) we use to approve the comment so it’s published on the story page and (ii) we can top-and-tail and forward on to the author so they know they have comments to see and respond to.
WP stopped sending us notifications for several days this week. The comments were not lost, but we had to open the dashboards to each subsite of the Gateway (that’s 12 different sites!) and manually approve the comments on each dashboard, and then work out how to let the authors know. Because that was slow and laborious, we were doing one sweep across the subsites a day rather than constantly monitoring a single email box, meaning delays before comments appeared on the story pages.
After reporting it to WP support – and a bit of judicious nagging on our part – notifications are starting to trickle through. We’re tentatively hopeful the problem has resolved, but not entirely convinced, so if you’ve commented and you’re wondering where your comment is, we may still be battling it out with WP…

Norton Security thinks we’re dangerous…
Well, Johnny Madrid might be dangerous, but websites devoted to Lancer stories most certainly are not. However, we had a reader tell us that her copy of Norton, the internet security/anti-spam system, had flagged the LancerLovers T-Z subsite as a dangerous site. This wasn’t universal, as two of the archive team didn’t have similar problems with Norton, but one reader was enough! We raised a dispute with Norton, and it was resolved within 24 hours, which is pretty good. LancerLovers T-Z is deemed safe again.
But, as part of raising the dispute, we ran all our websites through a checker, and Norton has rated only two of them. That means that at any time, they might take the same action with the other ten.
So this is just a head’s up: if you ever get an error message warning you against one of our websites, please let us know asap. We’ll then take it up with Norton, hopefully with the same swift resolution as we had this week.
