Google Earth is our friend here! We’ve taken some screenshots of the present-day Rancho San Carlos, so you have a better idea of how the house, guest house and grounds etc are laid out.
The Rancho San Carlos is the hub now of the St Lucia Conservatory/The Santa Lucia Preserve, near Carmel, CA – a community of houses built within the ecological preserve.

On this image, you can see the general layout of the house and garaging at the top of the circle, with the guesthouse bottom left, to the left of the pool. You can see how it relates to Moore’s Lake, which is where Scott and Johnny have their scuffle in the pilot, and Teresa gives them a scolding.
The green area between the Rancho buildings and the lake were polo fields at one time, and it’s across this land that Johnny rides Barranca at breakneck speed, with Pardee’s men in pursuit. You’ll see more of this below in the close up pictures.
